According to Ayurveda, Bronchial Asthma is a Vatakaphaja disease that starts in the stomach and slowly progresses
to the lungs and bronchi. It is correlated to Tamaka Shwasa. Ayurveda says the reasons for Tamaka Shwasa are the
consumption of dry, cold, heavy, incompatible foods and irregular food consumption. Excessive black gram, beans,
sesame, and aquatic animal meat consumption of cold water and exposure to cold climate, dust, smoke, wind, vigorous
exercise, excessive sexual activity, trauma to the throat, chest, vital organs, suppression of natural urges. As a
result, the goal of treatment is to move excess Kapha back to the stomach and then eliminate it. Treatment elaborated
in Ayurveda is Swedana, Vamana and Virechana. These procedures will be decided upon the patient’s condition.
The first step in controlling asthma is to stay away from the causative agents. Special care should be taken while
working or getting exposed to the allergens. Take special precautions during the time of season changes. Keeping
the immunity levels high is the best asthma treatment naturally. Treat the respiratory infections or symptoms
immediately before it shapes to a chronic condition. Avail medical care if necessary. A balanced diet is essential
when concerned with asthma treatment. Home-cooked meals are the best to avoid digestive issues. Avoid cold or
refrigerated foods.
Asthma is one of the common respiratory diseases today in which the airways become narrow, inflamed, irritated,
and produce excessive mucus, resulting in difficulty breathing. In Ayurveda terminologies, we consider asthma as
“Swasa Roga” mainly induced by an imbalance of Vata Dosha (air-governing element), and Kapha Dosha (water-earth
governing element) in the body.
The accumulation of ama (toxins) inside the system leads to the description of these body-governing elements and
blockage of the flow of prana (life force) in the respiratory system. Besides this, ahaar-vihar (diet and lifestyle)
also plays a crucial role during this condition where consumption of an unhealthy diet, or following a sedentary
lifestyle can trigger this breathing disorder.
Ayurvedic Treatment for asthma has been proven to be the most effective way to deal with this respiratory disorder.
Through eliminating the harmful toxins throughout the system, Ayurveda channalizes a renewed sense of energy, and
vitality in the body and contributes to the overall healing process of asthma. ‘Pranavaha Sroto Vikara’ is the term
used for asthma in Ayurvedic texts that causes regular breathing difficulties. Integrating herbal remedies, dietary
suggestions, and lifestyle adjustments under the guidance of an expert, a natural solution is enabled that provides
permanent relief from asthma.
